Lighting Up

“Wanna know something exciting?” I asked as I rubbed baking soda into my hair.

The warm water in the shower flowed over him. He reached up and wiped the water from his eyes, turned his head and looked at me. A huge smile crossed his face, not just his mouth but his whole face. His eyes sparked and lit up.

“Yeah” he responded, nodding enthusiastically.

I smiled back at him and began telling him the story that I had to share with him. I wiggled and moved as I told him the story. Everything in my body was excited despite the fact that the story really wasn’t anything earthshaking.

You see, I decided a couple of years ago that I was going to be excited by life. I have always been excited by small things but I made the active decision to sit in inner child excitement as much as possible. I decided to put excitement on everything.

As we traded spots and I started to wash the baking soda out of my hair I started reflecting on how excited he was for my story. He didn’t know what I was going to tell him but he had known me long enough to know that my story may not be THAT exciting to an outside person yet there he was, lit up like a Christmas tree for whatever I was going to share with him.

As I closed my eyes and allowed the water to wash over my head and face, bringing baking soda all down my face and into my mouth, I couldn’t help but smile. I had found someone who was just as excited to be alive only I hadn’t gone searching for him. I had held my energy and allowed him to come into my reality and then recognized him when he arrived.

May your days be filled with wiggles and excitement over the small things and may you find someone who lights up to be alive.
