Control

“What if I make the wrong choice?” he asked.

“My truth is that we can’t make the wrong choice.” I said.

He paused and left a long silence.

“I can only speak for myself, but what I can tell you is that the universe puts me where I need to be when I need to be there. Let me give you an example.  I dated a man who I loved deeply and it didn’t work out, but it resulted in me living in the home that I am in and starting my business and both of these things were meant to happen. Now, I am with the partner of my dreams. I could look at that first relationship as a failure, like something went wrong or I picked the wrong person. But if I had picked another person, I wouldn’t be where I am today. The outcome of our relationship is irrelevant and now looking back I am so incredibly grateful that we didn’t work out.  He was never meant to be my person. I didn’t get it “wrong” because you can’t get it “wrong” but sometimes we need to take steps to get where we need to be. Does that make sense?” I asked.

“Yes, I think so. It is a different way to think about things.” he responded.

“I know, and that way of thinking may not work for you but for me it works perfectly. I am just present with whatever comes my way in life. I am not going to get anything wrong. When I approach life with this mindset, I get out of my head and into my heart. I don’t stress and worry about things like I used to. I just surrender to life and where the universe wants to direct me.”

“That would be hard for me” he said back.

“Why?” I asked.

“Because, I wouldn’t have control” he responded quickly.

“Sure, but do you really have it now or is it an illusion? Do you spend a bunch of time and energy trying to control something that can not be controlled?” I asked with gentle energy.
