I was sitting on a couch next to him. His eyes were shut and he was listening to the song that I was playing for him. 

“That is really beautiful” he said.

“Yes, I have been working with the song for about 4 months now” I said.

He opened his eyes, turned his head sideways so that he could look at me, wrinkled his face in question and asked “what do you mean, working with”. 

Well, when I find a song that speaks to me I will listen to it. I will dance with it. I will cook with it. I will walk with it. I will write with it. I will meditate with it. I will shower with it. I will sit with it.I will drive in a car with it.  I will feel it with all parts of me, so I will listen to it with only my heart and then only my body and then only my spirit and then only my mind and then everything all at once. The different parts of me hear, feel and interpret different things from the song. The different parts understand things differently and as such will teach me differently. I move the song up through my chakra system allowing it to engage with each chakra. These are all just ways for me to work with energy and understand as much as I can from the song”

He smiled at me and then turned his head back. He laughed and made a statement about just listening to the song.

I wasn’t judging the way that he worked with the song. I was simply answering the question of what it means for me when I work with a song. My way isn’t better, it is just different. It was during a shamanic meditation that I was taught how to work with songs like this.
