Bra problems
“Ugh” I said in a whiney voice.
“What?” he asked.
We had just gotten out of the shower and I was getting dressed. I had forgotten that I had thrown my favorite bra out just the day before because it had broken.
“I don’t have a bra” I said while I looked through the bra options that I had in our room.
“Do you need me to go get one from the dryer?” he asked.
“Yes please” I said back with a whiney voice. I had gotten up that morning with a cold and was functioning on little sleep.
He slipped on shorts and went downstairs. Before he was even at the bottom of the stairs I realized that what I really wanted was to go without a bra for the day. As I stood in our room rubbing water from my body with my towel I started to wonder why I ever wore a bra. I can easily make the argument that as a woman with larger breasts it is uncomfortable to have them flopping around all day, but if I am being honest that isn’t actually how I feel. I actually love not wearing a bra. My body is the happiest when I don’t wear a bra and every chance that I get to remove one, I do. So, if this is what my body wants, why do I override it on a daily basis?
By the time he got back, carrying my second favorite bra in his hand, I had already gotten dressed. He walked into the room and tilted his head sideways at me, asking why I was dressed without using words.
“I am not wearing a bra today” I said with a fair amount of conviction. “I don’t want to wear one.”
He smiled at me and tossed the bra onto the couch next to me, “perfect” he said back.
And, just like that, on a random Monday, I started listening to what I really wanted rather than what I had been taught was proper and right.
